EORI

Assigned by the legal authorities in the European Union, the EORI (Economic Operators’ Registration and Identification) is a unique numerical figure that permits customs officials to recognize the economic operators in the economy and in certain instances other people of interest as well. The number is lawfully binding in all European Union member states. Every so often, the customers might have been automatically registered for EORI in which cases they can check by using their VAT number with the IE prefix.

It’s possible that foreign business entities who have applied for the EORI number will receive varying EORI numbers in respect to the configuration of their allotted VAT numbers. All businesses whose registration occurred post-2009 must acquire an EORI number as a matter of mandate. As a trader, you should always know that the Irish Revenue is obligated to make available information relating to any business entity possessing a legitimate Irish EORI number to the European Commission (EC).
